Buellwood Fall Retreat 2022

Our retreat in September was a lot of fun. We had a great time, so much fun I took only a few pictures.

We had three members each lead a fiber workshop for us. We had a delicious luncheon spread for all to enjoy. Saturday afternoon we had a fun ‘Visit to Iceland’ presentation by new members Mary M and her sister Sue G.The  Sunday we had our annual monthly topic planning meeting and Election of Guild officers.

It sure looks like these sisters have a great time traveling together. Here Sue is presenting her slide show for us.

Dawn presented a felted chair pad which we braided Saturday am. She took all our braids home Saturday and felted them in the washing machine.

In the afternoon Denise introduced us to Dorset Buttons. A much smaller project and very successful.

Sunday AM Phyllis presented coiling with yarn and fabric which was fun. Everyone was busy trying to finish all these beautiful projects.

Sean opted to work on his tablet woven sheep book markers. During his spare time.

After lunch we meet for election of officers. Also completed a year of planning our monthly presentations for our 2022-23 year.
I have listed each month with what we will be doing for 2022-23. Check out topics in banner above this blog.

New officers:
John G will remain our Guild Chair,
Phyllis will be our new Co Chair
Melissa L is our new treasurer

November 21 2016 Coiling

Our November Guild meeting was held on November 21 st at Gloria Dei Church in Hancock, MI.

After a brief business meeting John and Clare introduced us to coiling. They are both auditing the  Intro to Fibers class at Finlandia University. Clare shows us samples of coiled pieces and how to start a coiling project.

Here are some samples of our coiling attempts using a base cord and scrapes of yarn to make our base.
We all enjoyed the demonstration and the information the team presented.

John shared a coiled basket he made. This is a
lovely piece and we loved the untwisted cord to
finish the basket top.

Show and Tell
We always have a great show and tell.

Dawn has been busy knitting hats with her natural dyed wool. These are some lovely colors that she has produced with her natural dye experiments. Also she is still working on perfecting her knit and felted slippers.
our guild is small but a very productive group.
Jean brought in some purses she made from her woven cloth and a basket and scarf she wove.

Karen shared some lovely Nalbinding headbands from Donna Kallner. Check out the classes at Vesterheim Museum in Iowa http://vesterheim.org/events/calendar/2016/04/02/getting-loopy-gathering-of-nalbinders/

Mary brought in some recently woven Double weave scarves woven with Rayon in Frank Lloyd Wright pattern. They were a little stiff coming off the loom but once washed the drape was lovely. To make the fringe she used a new tool which makes the job go so much faster.
