This month our meeting focused on a presentation by Phyllis Fredendall about her recent trip to Finland. Phyllis received a fellowship from the American Scandinavian Foundation to travel to Finland to study weaving. She studied täkänä (a.k.a. Finnweave/Double Weave Pickup). She also spent time visiting and weaving in educational centers including a folk school and the Finnish Taito Group, an umbrella organization for craft associations throughout the country.

Discussing weaving with poppona (used in the piece held here by Phyllis). The rug on the table was woven using a similar threading to what we used in Wynne Mattila's Over the Waves workshop. The Finns she met call it Church Arches.
After the show and tell in the fiber studio we moved upstairs for a slideshow focused on the amazing studios and people she visited during her trip.
Our next guild meeting will be Saturday, December 16 at 1pm in the FAFS Fiber Studio. We'll have a regular meeting with show and tell.
