We had a short Buellwood meeting June 18th, while a number of our guild members were warping the looms for Mondays Wynne Mattila’s Cotton rug weaving workshop.
The show and tell was quick, here are some of the highlights: Nathen and Robyn’s wild and crazy t-shirts they made tritik stitching and dyeing.
Tritik stitching is a small running line of stitching that is gathered tightly. It is often used in African textiles and the designs are much bolder than in most other forms of stitching. This type of stitching is mostly found in Africa. It also played an important role in tie-dyeing.
Sean did some nice woven words on his inkle loom.
Karen made a stitched bag and learned to knit socks in workshops at the Finnish American Folk School.
Lois was weaving on circular frames . She named them ‘Root, Shock, Crown’.
Elaine was knitting the flag for the knitting circle experience in a July at the Emberlight festival.
Following show and tell our members decided we needed name tags to get to know our new members. If you were not there please make up a name tag ( any Media ) before our fall meetings. Some samples can be seen below. The rest of us got busy warping our looms for our Monday workshop.
The cotton rug class was great fun and hard work. We planned our colors and patterns and by Wednesday we were all weaving. We beat those looms as hard as we could to get the tight fabric for our rugs.
Some of the beautiful rugs we wove.
