Pine Mountain Music Festival Events evenings of Preconference

Anyone who is interested in good music would be interested to know that MTU has a fine music festival called the Pine Mountain Music Festival. This goes on for 6 weeks in the summer in Houghton and the UP. Music teachers from all over the country come together to hold summer workshops for some of the finest music students in and around the Midwest and perform around the area.
This year, besides an original opera written about copper miners in the Upper Peninsula during the 1890’s strike, there are two performances you might like to attend.
#1 on Monday June 20th, at 7:30 p.m. there is an Organ Recital by Christina Harmon at the St. Joseph Church in Lake Linden at 701 Calumet St.
#2 on Tuesday, June 21st at 7:30p.m. there is a musical revue at the Calumet Theater, a beautifully restored 1880’s Opera House! It is entitled “New York and Paris in Revue!” The theater is located at 340 Sixth St.
No reservations are needed, the venues are not too large, and the voices are superb. Parking is easy and it’s only 15 minutes away.
Check out their calendar at the Pine Mountain Music Festival website.
