What is there to do in Copper Country?

This summer our Tour Chairman Gail Mandli and I took a tour of the Keweenaw Peninsula to decide on what our 2 tours would be for Northern Wefts 2011. The tour day will be Thursday June 23rd, 2011 and we will have two tours. One tour will head up the Keweenaw to Copper Harbor Michigan. It will include stops at Brockway Mountain, Fort Wilkins State Park, Esrey Park for a picnic lunch. Then on to the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse and the Jampot. It will be a tour of spectacular scenery, flower gardens and Historical sights along the way.

The second tour will head south of Houghton the the small town of Chassell Michigan where we will be treated to a style show at the Chassell Heritage Musuem by Friends of Fashion a group that puts on a wonderful style show of period clothing. Followed by lunch and a stop at Einerlei, a unique shop with a wonderful flower garden out back. Finally a local Carver who studied Finnish Carving in Finland will do a short demo at his home in Tapiola.

Wednesday evening June 22, 2011 we will have a local Trolley take conference attendees to Historic Calumet for a tour of the many Galleries and shops in Calumet. Calumet is the only National Historic site to be located in an actual town. Keweenaw National Historic Park.

We Ended the day with a well deserved Thimble Berry Margarita with weaver friends Jean and Deb in Historic Calumet. They were so good!

One of these tours is a must for your trip to the UP.
